Day 4 (6/22)—Around Town

It's Saturday. There are usually more vendors at the open air market, so we headed out to the one by Ah-gong's house (Evan stayed home with Ah-gong while the 3 of us went). But of course, we can't just hit one open air market, we had to go to two (all of us)! We also went to a slightly bigger one by where we lived when I was growing up. We had something cool to eat: a bowl of silky tofu in light sweet syrup with soft cooked peanuts. It's refreshing in this heat. Normally, I would like to walk by our old house and take a couple pictures, but it's too hot to do that extra walking. At least the sky was a bit overcast so I guess it could've been worse (I'm trying to make myself feel better here).

We head to take the MRT toward the old downtown area. MRT was CROWDED! Evan was squished in the crowded rail train. Hubby somehow lost his mysterious "white guy" personal space. When we had visited before, people used to give Hubby that little bit of space on crowded buses while I got smooshed. But not anymore. Ah-gong was so looking forward to seeing how Evan would react to the sleek rail system. Too bad it was so darn crowded. It was tough to enjoy. However, Evan was impressed by this super duper long escalator (about 3 stories long). And at one of the stations, a guy was playing the Guzheng (Chinese zither). I love classical Chinese music and admire people who could play. Evan showed his appreciation by doing his goofy dance. We had beef noodle soup and dumplings, then went to do more shopping. We kept things under control this time. It's tough to shop when you've got three bored guys hanging around tapping their feet. We're bribing/temping Evan with chocolate milk and chocolate cake. He's also getting to play with iPhones and iPad a lot more than normal, but hey, we're on vacation… sort of.

In the evening, we walked over to the McDonald's across the street from Ah-gong's house. We wanted to see if there might be a play area for kids. There was, but it was pathetically small. We'll have to scout for another place to take the kiddos.

    1. We all got our hair cut before the trip. Not that it mattered for me since mine is always in a pony tail these days... so hot!
