Our second day with Emma is better. She and Evan ate a quick simple breakfast before we had to head toward AIT. I attempted to do her hair for the first time. I'm a little out of practice. Everything went fairly smoothly at AIT. It was just tough for the little ones to wait without a lot to keep them occupied. The room we were told to go to this time is on the second floor. Last time we waited on the third floor. There were lots of toys there. Not on the second floor, though. They got a bit antsy, ended up stretched out over several seats. I had to cringe since I was raised to sit properly, stand properly… Ok, I do slouch, but I try to work on that. Then we came home to have some lunch that Ah-gong made for us and some sashimi and goose.
Evan had been very excited to get a new sister. However, I think reality has started to set in. As much as we had tried to prepare him, nothing beats reality. At first, he had really wanted and tried to play with her, but she was either too preoccupied or upset to play with him. She was just not interested. So sad for Evan. Then, Evan has started to notice that not all of the attention is on him anymore and that the iPad she's playing with seems more fun. He thinks she gets too loud (she goes from person to person, going "hya!" trying to frighten us), and whenever Hubby picks her up to touch the overhead beam, he wants to get picked up too. At nap time yesterday, I was sandwiched on a full-size bed between the two of them. Whenever she got any attention, he wants it right then too. He has started to say he doesn't like meimei so much. Aawww… I feel so bad. This is all stuff we'll need to work on, and it'll take time. We're still getting to know her and she's no perfect angel. At her foster home, she'd been known to boss her 9yo older brother around. I really don't want that to happen to Evan, so we'll keep an eye on that. I think some of the issue might be caused by the inability to communicate. Hopefully, things will get better when they can speak the same language(s?) and learn some communication skills (like I'm the one to talk, haha).
We stayed home for the most part yesterday. Sis and I went out to do our daily patrol at the market. And I went to pick up Emma's visa (YAY!) in the afternoon. Then we met some of Ah-gong's friends for dinner at the dumpling restaurant right downstairs (so convenient!). After bath and such, I gave both kids some children's Mucinex (the dry kind) since they were both coughing a bit. Evan has had it many times before and took it happily. Then I gave some to Emma. I turned around to throw the little wrapping away. When I came back, Emma had tossed her cookies all over herself and Sis! OMG!!! Aaahhhh!! Thank goodness Sis was there. She used her shirt to clean up the mess and I cleaned up Emma. I asked her if her tummy was hurting? Ate too much? Anything? She said no. Then we all went to bed. I had my finger crossed that all will be well but kept a little bucket nearby.
Hi Auntie! This is Jaynie. You guys sound like pros at this whole process! I'm very impressed :)
ReplyDeletePoor Evan, it sounds like its going to be a uncomfortable and bumpy road for a while. But it must not be easy for meimei either! Maybe they can play a two-player game on the ipad?
How's Uncle Paul doing? It must be so hot for him in Taiwan right now! How is our other Auntie and Ah-Gong? Are you eating lots of yummy food? Please eat a red bean cake (from those street carts) for me!
阿倫:tossed是不是吐了的意思(不是丢,扔吧?)我想是因為小孩子對新的環境
ReplyDelete緊張不安的生理反應,他們不知如何表達所至吧.it will go away I think.
