Day 3 (6/21)—It's Hot!

It's hot! It's hot and humid! Hubby and I each carry a hand towel around town to wipe our sweat. That first day when we went to the market, a store owner handed me a wad of paper towels seeing how profusely I was sweating. I kept trying to tell myself this humidity is good for my skin, good for weight loss (is it?), my pores are getting flushed out and cleared, etc, etc. But it's just plain friggin' HOT! One good thing about coming in the Summer is the fruits! Yummy fruits! We're having fresh lychees, different kinds of mangos, really sweet pineapples, juicy watermelon (already cut up), etc. Almost makes it the heat bearable… almost.

Day 3, Ah-gong took us to the noodle place that always made him feel like he's home, Yen's Noodles. Hubby likes that place a lot too, although it's not the kind of place that sees a lot of white guys. Far from it actually, but most places we take Hubby to are like that. It's located close to the oldest part of Taipei, Dihua Street, which sold a huge variety of dried/preserved goods. We walked through those streets in the humid heat, dragging Evan along. He held up pretty well for the most part. After getting some shaved ice (a welcome reprieve from the heat), we took the bus back to Ah-gong's house. Evan fell asleep on Ah-gong's lap on the bus. Hubby had to potato sack him off the bus and up the elevator. Poor guy (or guys) were exhausted.

After a bit of rest, we headed out to meet with another Heartsent family who had just picked up their son a couple of days before. They invited us to the Grand Hyatt to enjoy the pool for the afternoon. The water felt awesome! Evan had a blast, running around in and out of the water. It was great to meet them and trade stories. This being their first child, I can related to how they might be feeling although I think they're doing much much better than we were. (Hope everything went smoothly on your trip home and you've made it home safely! Take care!) We stopped by Taipei 101 which is right next to the Hyatt, just to say we've been in there.

Ah-gong and Ah-yi brought home crispy-skinned duck for dinner. The duck meat is thinly sliced and meant to be wrapped in tortilla-like wrap with hoisin sauce and green onion. Yummy!! I made one for Evan. He ate it but just barely. He was totally exhausted, couldn't keep his eyes open. He still had energy to finish the bag of M&Ms we got from Taipei 101, but not much more. He fell asleep on the couch. We had to wake him up to give him a bath. Well, he didn't really wake up. He was as limp as wet noodles, made the bath just a bit tough. It made me cringe to let him go to bed without brushing his teeth when he probably still had chocolate in his mouth (yuck), but we just couldn't put him through more torture. We'll have to remember to take care of these essentials before this kind of total collapse.

We ran into one of my mom's oldest friends!

Taipei 101, the second tallest building in the world (I think).

  1. Yum yum food... The meerkats are standing firm, the young ones are still safe. Did you make the bamboo soup yet? I stepped on Jarvan's tail yesterday. A loud squawk. He has not forgiven me, would not be in the kitchen with me together. I have to leave the room so he would eat.
