Taiwan Day 9

Well, this is the day we go down to Tainan. The rain finally stopped early in the morning. We had some breakfast and went down to the market again. It's fun to just walk through and look at stuff. It's not always the same vendors either.

Hubby, Sis, and I headed to the Taipei Train Station just before 10 am, managed to find our way to the High Speed Rail platform just in time. I have not been in the train station since I was a little kid. It sure looks different now. Very modern. I felt like a country bumpkin looking a bit lost while the locals were rushing by. It only took 2 hours to get from Taipei to Tainan. The seats were spacious enough, but rather hard on the butt (the poor butt that I fell on yesterday). I'm glad we weren't on it for that much longer. The station is quite a bit of distance from Tainan City. I think it was about NT$455 for the taxi fare, which Sis beat me to paying since she was in the front seat. :o\ The place that we're staying, Hotel Tainan, was recommended by our agency, so they've probably seen a few adoptive families come through. The bellboy and front desk spoke English. The service was very courteous too. It's about US$100 per night with breakfast included. The view out the window is kind of ugly, don't know if I should post it.

We have decent Internet access at the hotel, so I've gone back to post pictures in previous posts.

In the evening, we asked the front desk about night markets in the area. There are a few different night markets in town, but each is open on certain days of the week. The one that was open today (Monday) was Da Dong Night Market, which we had to take a taxi to. It's like a big night time swap meet type place with a few rows of food stands and several rows of stuff for sale. We got some stinky tofu first. The stand was very popular, so we thought it would be good. And it was pretty good. We got a couple kabob type things, dumplings, oyster noodle soup, and red bean cakes. There's a few new things that we haven't eaten before, but we stuck to stuff we know more or less. We were tempted to get something cool to drink, but were worried because we suspect it was some orange juice that done Sis and me in a few days ago. We're a little gun shy now. We walked through all the aisles. There were stands selling clothes (although mostly teeny-bopper type stuff… gosh I feel old), hair pretty things (that used to interest me but I'm over my girly days now), and there were quite a few carnival type game booths. The market started to get hopping by the time we were ready to go. We're going to try and make an early night since it'll be a big day tomorrow.
