We arrived safely in Taipei at about 7 am local time on March 20. The plane was about an hour late departing from LAX. The 14 hour flight was rough for me since I'm not such a good sleeper sometimes. Sis and hubby had no problem though. I was envious of their ability to sleep anywhere. Good thing we sprung for the elite/deluxe class for Eva Air which had more elbow and leg room, and the seats recline a little more than economy. Total worth it!
One of the airport buses had a very convenient stop around my parents' condo in Taipei. Once we got there, we freshened up a little and right out we go to Sunday outdoor market. In fact, we hit TWO markets. We got lots of little dishes of yummy food and had ourselves a little feast when we got back. The weather was pretty warm and humid. I was sweating in my short-sleeve t-shirt (wish I had brought some shorts or capris) while the locals were in jackets and sweaters. Now I can sort of appreciate how hubby feels in So. Cal, always in t-shirts while I'm bundled up. After lunch we took a little nap (what a life, huh?).
Hubby and I went out to try and get some Internet access in the afternoon. We went into McDonald's and Starbucks, thinking they would offer free wifi, but we couldn't get in for some reason. We had bought this 31-day wifi access from 7-11 and finally got it to work. But we have to be close to one of their hotspots, like Starbucks, 7-11, MRT stations, to be able to use it. Unfortunately, my parents' place is not quite close enough, so we'll have to go to Starbucks after I write this to post it on my blog. Hmm… there's got to be a better way.
For dinner, we headed to one of the markets that we used to go to growing up. They had the best oyster omelets, which is hubby's most favorite dish in Taiwan. We got some oyster noodle soup, which is my favorite. Bought some drinks to cool us down, and got shaved ice to bring home. The market was pretty crowded with a lot of young people being Sunday evening.
We got around mostly on city buses (NT$15 each ride), which are pretty convenient if you know your way around. Good thing dad was there to guide us.
Scrolling down and saw the beef stew noodle soup.Talk about salivating! I need a bowl...NOW!
