The weather cooled down quite considerably since Tuesday. It's almost downright chilly. Since mom got transferred to the larger hospital, sis and I made our way over there in the morning (dad was with her all night). She looked much better, was able to sit up and not breathing heavy anymore. But they're going to run some tests and see what she needs. Hopefully, she can come home soon. The hospital is this gigantic compound just outside of Taipei. There's a shopping area and a huge food court area in the basement. It almost didn't look like it belonged in a hospital. Since sis' and my stomachs were still pretty iffy, we didn't try anything. The odd thing about hospitals in Taiwan is that the nurses don't really tend to the patients like they do in the States. They come around taking vitals and giving meds and are pretty efficient, but not as far as helping patients go to the bathroom and such. So it's all up to the family to care for their loved ones. They could hire a helper for NT$2100 for 24 hours (which is about US$70, not bad at all). But dad and sis were taking turns with mom until Wednesday afternoon when they helper came. Dad was exhausted.
While we were out visiting mom, hubby went off on his own to experience a little bit of being in a foreign country. He managed to go get some of that Chinese breakfast again. He said the shopkeeper was surprised to see him on his own. With a bit of gesturing and pointing, he got some warm soy milk, a glass of cool soy milk, and a few steamed buns. I've jokingly said we should to set him somewhere in Taipei on his own and see how he would manage. He's a pretty resourceful guy. I'm sure he would do just fine, especially since it's not his first time around here. I think he might actually enjoy it.
In the afternoon, hubby and I took the bus to the electronics shopping center. It is now a six-story building, full of all things electronic, from sound systems to computer parts and software to movie DVDs. Hubby's a computer geek and I think he had a good time looking at all the stuff. The jade market is right next to the electronics shopping center. It seemed a little smaller than I remembered. We got some souvenirs and headed back toward home.
In the evening, we headed over to the night market that was closest to us. It was a lot of fun walking around and looking at all the stuff. We got a few bite to eat and bought a couple little things. Hubby checked off another food that he was looking forward to. It's this red-bean cake thing. Some places use a lot of different fillings, like cream, creamed corn, coffee flavor, and even chocolate. I didn't get to have any since my tummy was still not too happy. Argh!!
Hubby's pointing out gloatingly that he's been able to enjoy all the food while I haven't. He needs his butt kicked, don't he?
