English Acquisition

As I have mentioned before, one of Evan's favorite, but frowned-upon words is "underwear." Of course, it's one of the first words that Emma has picked up. However, her pronunciation is not quite there yet. In fact, she has a little bit of a Taiwanese/Japanese accent! The way she says "L" sounds like "elo." And the way she says "underwear" is "ahna-bu-e." She cracks herself up saying ahna-bu-e, ahna-bu-e, along with other frowned-upon words that Evan likes to say. Ugh! She is also picking up some nice words and phrases, like "thank you" and "excuse me" although they sound like "sahnk u" and "ekyuf me." But we're just happy she's starting to use some words.

Evan and Emma still squabble and tattle on each other. Sometimes I just want to knock their head together. There was a cute moment in the car one day, however. Evan had some grapes left in his snack bag after school, and Emma wanted some. We caught Evan patiently trying to teach Emma how to ask nicely in English, "May I have grapes, please?" That was kind of cute. Evan actually makes sort of a nice big brother when he tries. However, Emma is in many ways already more matured. She will catch up very quickly.
