We were waiting to do all the rest of Emma's dental treatment at the IV sedation at the end of the month, but one of her giant fillings came out from a molar, and what's left of the tooth was chipping away like rotted wood. On top of that, another tooth also fell out when she was at school one day, leaving part of the root. She didn't tell the teachers at the time though. I was a bit concerned over the pain she was having at times. So, back to the dentist we go for treatment with nitrous oxide.
Emma was definitely more leery this time, refusing to open her mouth at first. She finally did after some coaxing. The dentist decided to take a couple of molars out since there were infections in the gums. Yikes! Emma toughed it out although not without quite a bit of hollering. I was afraid she might be frightening some of the other young patients. As tough as she was, I don't think she would want to do more treatment under nitrous. As of now, the right side of her mouth is all done. Fingers crossed that nothing more will happen before the scheduled IV sedation.
| Poor kiddo, she passed out after the dentist visit. I drove around for another 1.5 hours so she could sleep more. |
So the Tooth Fairy got busy again. At first, Emma wanted to put the box in the refrigerator, maybe as a test to see if the Tooth Fairy would actually know where she put it. She changed her mind before bed time and brought it into her bedroom. Not sure why, but Emma's not too certain about this Tooth Fairy character. Maybe she's not crazy about something sneaking up to her in the middle of the night. I offered to write a note to the Tooth Fairy asking her to deliver the present to mama. She liked that idea, but after much consideration, she decided to have me write this:
Dear Tooth Fairy,
Emma is a little afraid of you. Would you deliver the gift for Emma and Evan to share, please? Thank you very much!
Emma
The next morning, Emma ran over to tell me the Tooth Fairy left her something but didn't leave anything for Evan. So we went to check. The Tooth Fairy left her two dollars in the pouch along with this tiny note.
I translated the note for her. She hesitated briefly but gave Evan a dollar. Good thing because Evan has been a little envious of her attention from the Tooth Fairy. He even asked us if he could try to break a tooth so she would come visit him. The dollar made Evan pretty happy.
A couple of days later, Emma asked if the Tooth Fairy would come visit her again that night. I said no, she didn't lose any more teeth, did she? She asked about the one that fell at school the other day. Did the Tooth Fairy not know about it since it didn't fall out at the dentist's office. (Oops! I forgot about that one!) Thinking quickly, I said since there's still a part of the root left, it didn't count. Minor technicality I know, but it was all I had. She seemed to have accept that. Phew!
