We survived the weekend trip to Legoland and Sea World! Evan had a great time at Legoland. We got there at 9:30 or so. The people-powered rides were open, so we got on those first. The rides at the kiddie section were a bit tame for Evan, but he had fun looking at all the stuff. He kept wanting to get wet, so we eventually let him have it at the Pirate Reef section. He just loved playing in water. He would probably be happy playing with the hose in our driveway. After getting him dried off and changed, we moved onto the next section of the park and had a bite to eat. While we were having lunch, we noticed the family at the next table had a little Asian girl while everyone else in the family were obviously caucasian. So Paul struck up a conversation with them. Turned out the little girl (around 3 years old) was adopted from China, home for two years. We started exchanging adoption war stories, adjustment war stories, child-raising war stories. It kind of feels like we're in a special "club" now.
We went on a couple more rides after lunch. We could tell he was getting tired but he just didn't want to succumb to a nap and miss out on anything. We even tried walking through Miniland where there was less commotion, but he got interested in all the miniature things. We ended up leaving there at 4 or so to check into our hotel. We were a bit exhausted. After resting a bit, we went to Ruby's for dinner and walked through the outlet mall a bit.
Saturday was Sea World. We told Evan that we had to take turns for going to "special place." Friday was Evan's special place. Saturday was Mama's special place. There was a place for kids to get wet and play (what do ya know) at Sea World, but it was overcast early in the day so we got on some kiddie rides and tried to see some shows, which are on a schedule and requires a little bit of planning. The thing is, it is just harder to stick to a schedule when you have a young kid around. You can't rush and cram as many shows as possible (get my money's worth, is what I would normally do), and the kid gets antsy waiting for the show to start under the hot sun. It was pretty crowded too so we couldn't sit in the "Splash Zone" to make Evan happy. Nevertheless, we had a good time (not as good for Evan), especially when Paul got to see the Turtle Reef exhibit. Awesome! And nicely air-conditioned too! At one point, Evan fell asleep and ended up taking a 2-hour long nap, giving us time to explore a little bit. I was thinking maybe sometime I'll come back here by myself and do what I want when I want. Oh, Sea World had pretty good turkey legs! More incentive to come back.
Sunday was Baba's turn for his "special place." We didn't tell Evan it was going to be Legoland again (2-day park-hopper tickets, yay!). This time we got on some of the bigger rides and did some stuff we missed the first time. And we visited the waterpark there too. It was fun. Of course, Evan slept through the whole ride home. I think he had a fun weekend.
