Yesterday was Evan's first official half day at preschool and the first serious day of potty training. The teacher put big boy underwear on him. For the 4+ hours that he was there, he held his pee pee. We took over extra underwear just in case of accidents. Once we got home, he pee'd a little on the pot. He had his pull-up on during his nap, which is when he really let it go and the diaper leaked. :o\ For the next several hours, we had him go potty regularly. There were some successes, and he was rewarded with a Matchbox car of his choice. Thanks to Auntie Ingrid and cousin David and Andy, we have a generous supply of them!
In the evening, he came to me, acting a little funny. It wasn't for something to eat cuz that was always very clear. After a little prompting, it seemed like he needed to go #2. Yay! It was a small victory just to get him to tell us when he had to go. So we went to sit on the potty. I sat next to him on the edge of the tub. He wanted to hold my hand (ain't that sweet?). He proceeded to "do his business." He was all proud when he was done. I was too, all ready to celebrate his first #2 on the pot! He stood up, and well, there was nothing in the toilet!!! What happened? I know he was bearing down, grunting a little, I could even smell it a bit (yuck! what parents have to put up with!). There must have been some result to all his work. I looked around a bit, and there it was, a big fat turd on the floor by the toilet. It appears that.. umm… it hadn't completely detached when he stood up and it went over the side. Yuck! Yuck! Yuck! Good thing I have practice picking up turds from wayward cats (Chirpy!). While I was cleaning up, I still had to keep telling him, yay, awesome, good job, 2 cars for going "en-en" (Chinese babytalk for #2). I guess better luck next time.
We took him back to preschool this morning. He wasn't as gung ho to go today. When we were leaving, he said bye-bye too thinking he was leaving with us. He all but skipped over to us by the door. He proceeded to have a little bit of a meltdown when he realized he was being left there. We left quickly to let the teacher work her magic. We were told the second day/week is always more difficult. Yup, they hit the nail on the head.
