Chinese New Year

Chinese school had a New Year’s festival on February 15th. (I know, I’m way late!) There were firecrackers, drumming performance, and a lion dance performance. Parents brought food for a potluck in each class. And there were games organized by the older students. All the students went around to the teachers to wish them a Happy New Year (拜年). They earned luck money (red envelopes). It’s a whole long saying. Emma is very good as expected. Her pronunciation is pretty much perfect, and more importantly, she’s loud. The teachers were amazed at how well she did. They didn’t know she had only arrived in the US several months ago. I did explain to a couple of the teacher, though.

我給你拜年,恭喜恭喜新年好,大吉大利,萬事如意,歲歲平安,年年有餘, etc, etc...
