Six Months Home

I just realized it's been 6 months since we picked up Evan! Don't know if I can say the time flew by. Not quite enough time has gone by for anything to have blurred. But compared with how things were when we first came home? Yea, we've come a long way, and hope to continue to make progress.

Evan and I have one thing in common (aside from the small eyes and flat head comment from my hairdresser… thanks a lot, Jenny), we are both not morning people. Good thing Baba is. He has taken over the task of waking Evan up almost every morning. Hubby seems to have endless patience with him, teasing him, playing with him to slowly ease him out of bed. There's usually a bit of whining and hollering on the part of Evan which I just don't have the patience for early in the morning. I've had to do it on my own, and it takes me 20 minutes to get him out of bed when I did it "nicely." It would be a lot faster if I didn't do it nicely, but it might be frowned upon by some. We now eat our breakfast to the music Michael Buble! Evan really likes music. Sometimes we'll do the silly wiggle-butt dance, and sometimes we'll slow dance and sway to the music.

He jabbers a lot, as Grandpa experienced first hand on the way up to Big Bear. I guess most people don't see that side of Evan. But we do, all the time! He's almost always making noises. Blowing raspberries, making silly sounds, sometimes gross sounds. I guess I can only chalk it up to being a boy and hope hope hope it goes away if I just ignore it. Not a whole lot of what he says makes sense yet. There's still quite a bit of whining and grunting. We're hoping the school can get him evaluated a help us figure out how we can help him.

What he does say now is more in English than in Chinese. Whereas he used to answer "meiyo" when we asked if he pooped, now he just says "no." When we saw a picture of a boat, he used to argue with us saying it's "chuan," not "boat." He now says "boat." His comprehension in English is improving, but at a standstill or even deteriorating in Chinese. It's now right about 50/50, I think. I can't help but feel a little bit sad. But I do want him to be able to communicate with kids and teachers at school, so Chinese will have to suffer for now. We'll work on it later.

Evan is curious, fun-loving, stubborn, but in general he's one goofy little guy. He's sure keeping us hopping!

Goofiness!!!
